Examples of "Scholastic/Magical Background Skills"
New Ways to Use Old Skills
Scrying
The INT-based skill Bugging can be purchased with the -½ Limitation "only for magical scrying", and be used as the "required skill" for items and spells involving divination, such as a magical mirror or crystal ball. The PRE-based skill Interrogation can likewise be purchased with the -1 Limitation "only with magical mind-probing", and be used in a similar manner. Because the Bugging skill could not otherwise be used in the typical Fantasy Hero campaign (except as "eavesdropping"), and the Interrogation skill is quite useful (albeit, un-heroic), the Limitations are given differing values.
Illusions
The General skills Disguise and Mimicry can each be purchased with the -1 Limitation "only with magical illusions", and then used to determine the accuracy of the illusionist's spells.
Magical Research
The INT-based skill Inventor can be purchased with the -½ Limitation "only for magical research", allowing the wizard to research new spells or magical items.
